QuickTime 3D? That sounds terrible.

Qt is great but... (0)

Qt is great but the focus on QML is just like Ubuntu focusing on Unity

The swishy, dumbed down, phone-esque UI emphasis is a little tiresome, but the widgets still exist and Qt 5 even includes a complete new cross-platform amalgam style called Fusion. You are welcome to give the widgets some love if you wish.

Qt for mac (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 2 years ago | (#42264289)

I wish I could get Qt to work on Mac. (I'm stuck on snow leopard with no way to upgrade) I need MySQL supprt, so my only option is to build from source. The major problem is OSX has this insane dependency on Xcode, it won't compile shit without that. It's a major pain to load a huge package if all you need is a compiler toolchain and the OSX headers. My problem is finding an old version of XCode that will run on Snow Leopard. (XCode >4 won't work for me and Apple doesn't offer anything older anymore) I even tried a stripped down version of the GNU toolchain but that wouldn't work. Shit, even buildingh Qt on Windows wasn't this bad. OS X clearly doesn't want people to use anything except Objective C/Cocoa or they would make this process a lot easier.

Is there something wrong with the Xcode 3 downloads from developer.apple.com? This is available with a free developer account (i.e. you need to sign up, but don't need to pay the $99 fee). If you do pay the fee, you can get access to the older Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard.

wish there was a mini qt framework (1)

Anonymous Coward | more than 2 years ago | (#42266135)

qt is awesome but, if you need something they don't have (like intermediate certificate support), tough luck. 3 years in bugtrack and counting.
also, i wish there was a mini version, the binary blob is huge and sometimes i just need basic functionality and would really like to save on space.

The framework is already split up among several libraries, and will be split up even more for Qt 5 (due before the end of the year).

As for not having everything and the kitchen sink, that's a good thing. Not every widget needs its own embedded email client :-)

Qt is already nicely split in libraries, and you can recompile it to suit your needs very easily. There are lots of simple configure-time switches, and there is even a tool called qconfig that helps you to make a very customized minimal build. I'm using Qt on embedded, and, for example, I can choose to compile the GUI library without QMessageBox, QTable, QListView, and many other widgets that I don't need.
